OPTIMAL ANESTHESIA SUPPORT

CASSANDRA: The AI solution for precise anesthesia documentation

Find out how artificial intelligence supports documentation in the OR and increases patient safety.

Challenges in anesthesia

Anesthesia teams are faced with the complex task of providing optimal patient care while accurately documenting all medical steps. Inaccurate records can pose legal risks and jeopardize patient safety. Seamless documentation is therefore essential both to meet legal requirements and to ensure the quality of patient care.

The researchers from the “CASSANDRA” project developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system that improves the documentation quality of anesthesiology procedures.

See how artificial intelligence supports anesthesia documentation.

Function of CASSANDRA-System

The CASSANDRA system uses state-of-the-art speech processing technologies to automate and optimize documentation in the OP.

Speech processing

Recognizes verbal agreements and medical procedures automatically, without the need for special voice commands.

Headset integration

Enables the surgical team to record communication without interference, even in noisy environments.

Local data processing

Ensures maximum data security, as all information is processed locally and not transmitted from the room.

Realtime documentation

Recorded data is time-stamped and displayed on a screen for immediate verification.

SUCCESSFUL PRACTICAL TESTS

Validation of the technology in the operating room

In order to validate CASSANDRA’s technology in real surgical environments, extensive tests and simulations were carried out. These included both theoretical and practical approaches in which dozens of anesthesia inductions were observed. Professionals were interviewed to gain valuable insights into workflows. Workshops helped to adapt the technology to the specific requirements of the OR team. The results of these tests showed that CASSANDRA is able to automate documentation accurately and efficiently, significantly reducing the workload of medical staff.

The simulations included realistic scenarios that made it possible to test speech processing and automatic documentation under various conditions. These tests ensured that CASSANDRA functions reliably even in stressful situations and that patient safety is guaranteed.

FUTURE PERSPECTIVE

CASSANDRAs potential for expansion

The potential of CASSANDRA goes far beyond anesthesia. In the future, the technology could also be used in intensive care units, emergency rooms or in nursing. Combined with the electronic patient file, this could lead to even more comprehensive and situation-specific support services – always with the aim of relieving the burden on medical staff and increasing patient safety.
